Charities Bureau Links to Rescue Group Information

Are they who they claim to be or just a group masquerading as a Non Profit for the Cash Donations? The status of non profits is available to the public through the links which follow. People in the Pet Community; people who foster/adopt from these groups and people who donate money to them have a right to know this information that is posted on the internet by the Attorney General's office, the IRS and Guidestar.

These are the links:

First and most important website: Attorney General's website: www.ag.ny.gov/bureaus/charities/about.html

www.charitiesnys.com

www.guidestar.com Follow the links and type in the name of the organization you're interested in. You may need to register (no charge) to use guidestar but it's worth it - you'll be able to view filed tax returns.

If you have the EIN or Federal ID number of the group or even just their zip code this additional information is useful for locating them using an "advanced search." No luck? You can call the charities bureau at

(212) 416-8401/8402 to speak directly to someone.

You can also email the charities bureau about the status of the org you want to know more about.
email: www.charitiesnys.com

www.irs.gov (www.irs.gov/app/pub-78
and a link came up with just basic information, enough to show that they are registered with the IRS.

This is usually not difficult research, you can do it on your own. The posted links are half the work!

Finally, if you want to foster/adopt from any group go to my website (http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeyfg4f/kittycatfosterpitfalls) and read/print/use:

"Ask Questions Before Fostering/Adopting Pets"

"Healthy Kittens: A Checklist"

Sign Petition to deny Michael Vicks Courage Award by Block Foundation!

After reading this and signing the petition to deny the Courage Award to Michael Vick, I'm posting on my blogs as well for others to sign.

I am just sickened by the fact that Michael Vick will be receiving a Courage Award from the Ed Block Foundation. He is a terrible choice to be a spokesperson for an organization against child abuse! What is the board of directors thinking by allowing this?

If you haven't heard about this, here is a link to a news story about it:
http://wjz.com/local/Michael.Vick.award.2.1395411.html

If you agree that he doesn't deserve this award, go here to sign the online petition against it:
http://www.change.org/actions/view/petition_against_awarding_michael_vick_the_ed_block_courage_award
Please spread the word about this, if the public outcry is great enough, maybe the board of directors for the foundation will see the light.

If you are one of the misguided who thinks he has paid his dues, please read this: Michael Vick's unpaid dues: Why dog advocates aren't moving on http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2009/11/03/petscol110309.DTL
